Solange Instagram – Saint Heron Press and The Saint Heron Library present: ‘Azurest Blue: The Life and Legacy of Amaza Lee Meredith,’ research journal on the passion-driven life and career achievements of twentieth-century, Black and queer architect, artist and educator, Amaza Lee Meredith (1895–1984). Edited by Solange Knowles, designed by Sabla Stays, and produced entirely in-house with four unique cover options, this work tells Meredith’s inspiring story from early childhood to her life’s end in 1984. Original photographs, blueprints, personal correspondences, career files, and more from Meredith’s personal archives accompany original essays by Ferren Gipson, Briona Simone Jones, Pascale Sablan, Jerald Cooper, and Shantel Aurora that chronicle Meredith’s life and passion-driven career achievements — from founding the Arts Department at Virginia State University, to co-developing Azurest North in Sag Harbor, NY. Embodying the example of independent Black presses throughout history, Saint Heron Press offers this frame of reference designed to support both scholarly projects and personal interests involving Black and feminine identities in American architecture, art, and design. The zine will be available to borrow exclusively via the Saint Heron Library starting Tuesday.
