Abbie Chatfield Instagram – DV victims are so often told they need to let their guard down to find love, that they need to “let people in” or they won’t ever find love. I DISAGREE!!! You have your guard up for a REASON!
I know it is so hard to trust and love again, and you can get impatient and feel like you’re getting in your own way but you’re actually taking care of yourself!!!!!! You’ve learnt from the pain that you’ve gone through and are now less willing to let people in. I think that’s a pretty reasonable response to trauma.
Of course if you are in a healthy safe relationship for a long time and you don’t see any improvement, it’s important to seek professional help, but you dont need your walls down for someone to love you or to be happy. Your guard will come down slowly after it’s done its job protecting you.
