Alicia Witt Instagram – i remember this vividly – i had just turned 5 and was a guest on That’s Incredible, performing the balcony scene from romeo and juliet with john davidson. we filmed it in September 1980, in hollywood. my family and i were flown out, and i got to go to disneyland too!
i was living in worcester, ma – it never occurred to me to be an actor or even that i could be an actor, because no one around me did anything like that for a living. this was long before that.
but this was what started it all.
you can see the moment i became hooked on the audience response – when i turned to look at them as they applauded my work for the very first time in my life.
i have never forgotten that feeling.
2 years later, the casting director for dune, jane jenkins, was at a loss as to finding a young child who could play the complicated role of alia. she contacted that’s incredible to see if they had any ideas, and they sent her this appearance on VHS. next thing i knew, i was auditioning for her in new york city, and then for david lynch the next day. and the rest… was destiny.
