Amanda Palmer Instagram – It’s April 16th, the 75th birthday of my dead old best friend and neighbor, Anthony. He died of cancer almost exactly ten years ago and I still miss him every single day; even more so after moving back into my parents’ house and being so close to his ghost house. This morning I went on a memorial walk though town with some of our old gang.
Then I came home and Brendon and I filmed a mini-memorial house concert for my patrons, nothing crazy. Just some stories, pertinent songs (“Machete” and “I Will Follow You Into The Dark”), a stick, some ashes, a little reading from by book, “The Art of Asking” and, you know…life, live. I forgot to wear waterproof mascara so my eyelashes bled.
A reminder that grieving anything is grieving everything.
Don’t even get me started about the news of the world today. My heart is shattered for my trans friends. I am holding fast to the principles Anthony – himself a mangle of contradictions – pointed me towards. Compassion for and acceptance of all beings. All means all.
Mini concert go out to the patrons when it’s ready as an embed (hopefully in the next few days).
It’s nice, I must say, having switched the patreon to monthly…and just making music and posts in a more human and free-floating way, like the old blog days when nothing was monetizes and everything felt equally playful and emotional and urgent.
The link to join the patreon is here: Patreon.com/amandapalmer … and I want to thank all the new people who’ve recently followed/joined as paying or non-paying members. It’s never not a weird time to join, so welcome to my content about my dead friend, hooray.
Hang in there all. | Posted on 17/Apr/2025 04:00:18
