DEE Lestari has long been known as a prolific singer and songwriter. Her songs have been popular since she was still with Rida Sita Dewi (1995-2003), and continue to be so in her solo career (through her album Out of Shell, 2006). Her breakthrough with Rectoverso (2007) still resonates today. “Malaikat Juga Tahu” has become a legendary song covered by various singers. After that, Dee continued to write hits for top Indonesian singers, including Marcell, Raisa, Ariel Noah, Andien, Titi DJ, and others. Through Rapijali Book Soundtrack (2021), Dee also collaborated with big names such as Iwan Fals, Bunga Citra Lestari, Mawar Eva, Adikara, Mikha Angelo, and Barsena Bestandhi.
However, Dee’s image as a book author is so strong that it seems to overshadow her existence as a singer. As a solo singer, Dee has not released a full album in 17 years. All this time, Dee has been very focused on her career as one of the leading authors in the country. In 2024, Dee’s father passed away, leaving her with a deep sense of loss. At one point, while alone at home, Dee decided to cheer herself up by singing. She set up a “karaoke” session using her laptop and speakers at home. She began to sing. Immediately, Dee felt a difference. Her heart felt alive again. She sang almost every night for weeks. Not only did this “ritual” help her heal from her grief, but Dee also fell in love with singing again. Her resolve was firm. She wanted to return to the world of singing. To create music in the form of an album.
