Donisha Rita Claire Prendergast Instagram – Over the past week, we have officially moved into a new phase of this movement. After weeks of immersive research, assessment, strategy and communication with relevant stakeholders, we are now actively implementing Temporary housing solutions for the residents of the Petersfield community.
Our immediate Point of Action is to BUILD a COMMUNITY RESILIENCE HUB with pre-made container homes that that can act as a safe, transitional space with social supports while homes are being rebuilt.
As a start, we have identified land and have begun the process of preparing the drainage systems#s, ####clearithe river to reduce potential flooding, previously experienced by residents.
With the assistance of @paulahurlock and a number of donors, we have now purchased 2 containers from @876imports which will function as multi family dwellings for a total of 16 people. Units will be delivered before early next week before Christmas. ❤️
This TEMPORARY solution offers a dignified and humane experience while PERMANENT solutions are finalized.
STAGE 4(Total Destruction of home/ Homeless)
We have identified land in the district where the majority of the shelterees homes were destroyed, and have prepping the land, clearing the gutters and drainage systems and marking the space where the container homes will be mounted. A priority list of shelterees has been created and are being processed for registration.
STAGE 3 (Loss of Roof and major structural damage)
Shelter residents who fall under this category have been identified and will be supported with requested materials and a team of skilled workers guided by HOV’s building protocols that have been created based on best practice models internationally.
