Literacy sets students up for a lifetime of success in the classroom, at work, and in their community. But today, far too many of our kids cannot read at a grade level.
Decades of disinvestment in education, a global pandemic, and addictive algorithms designed to drain our kid’s attention are causing us to fall further and further behind.
Today, we’re 44th in the country for 4th grade reading and no one person, party, or event is to blame.
Tackling the literacy crisis takes all of us.
We’ve made real progress improving education by making record investments in our students and schools, strengthening dyslexia screening, and standardizing how we teach reading with proven methods.
But we must do more.
Our mission is as big as it is simple: Every child reads. Not some. Not most.
Every child reads.
Helping our children live better lives is our duty as leaders, parents, and everyday Michiganders. Let’s come together and work even harder to help every kid read.
We can all do our part, in our own way to help a kid read. I’m proud of all the ways that Michiganders are stepping up.
Helping every kid read is a tough but worthwhile goal. I know we can get it done because here in Michigan, we can do hard things.
