Katrina Weidman Instagram – A few months ago I went on a spooky road trip with @visitnc and one of the spots we went to was @madison_dry_goods
It’s a really cool building but has a very sad history attached to it.
If it sounds familiar you probably saw it on @netflix #28dayshaunted or you’re a true crime fan who heard about the Lawson m*rders and the tragedy that their poor family suffered through.
The building claims to be haunted and a lot of people attribute that to the fact that the Lawson family was prepared for burial when #madisondrygoods was a funeral home.
BUT
All of the stories I heard about the haunting don’t really seem to match that.
Mostly, people see, hear, and experience the spirit of a little girl who doesn’t appear to be part of the Lawson family.
So who is she? 🤔
We know the building was once a hotel (personally, this is the area I felt the most uneasy… see pic #13) and I wonder if she came from that era? With no surviving documents from the hotel it’s hard to tell. Maybe another spirit from the time it was a funeral home?
One of the recurring reports of activity is that customers have their jewelry removed from unseen hands, weird claim and I’m not sure I’ve heard that before (and I’ve been to A LOT of places!)
Besides the history it’s a store with some very cool clothes and home goods (amazing ceramics!), a restaurant, a vintage shop with many creepy dolls, and a museum dedicated to keeping the memory of the Lawson alive and so future generations learn from it.
The building is also open for ghost hunts
