Após a queda do Império Romano e as guerras da Reconquista, o lugar foi repovoado no século XIV, por iniciativa de D. Dinis. A vila recebeu privilégios de vários reis e o Foral Manuelino em 1514″.

The name Ponte de Sor derives from a bridge, possibly Roman, built over the Ribeira de Sor. After the fall of the Roman Empire and the Wars of Reconquista, the place was repopulated in the 14th century, on the initiative of King Dinis. The town received privileges from several kings and the Manueline Charter in 1514.”
