You know right, when I was younger, my thinking was much more black and white. There was clear distinction between right and wrong: grey was for those weak, wishy washy people who had no conviction. Loyalty and faith- especially towards/in institutions- had to be unquestioning. You were either with us or against us. To question was to doubt and that was generally not taken well. It implied pride, as if you believed you knew better. It couldn’t be that you were curious, or didn’t understand, or had a different way of seeing it, nope- you were proud. Just listen because we know better. You, be humble. Ironic, isn’t it? Humble..? Or obedient? 🫢 HOW DARE. Haha
Some days, I feel a bit sad that I was taught to fear my own questions, to fear my own wonderings. This actually left me vulnerable to having right and wrong PRESCRIBED to me. By ANYONE. With no internal gauge!! But… how could THEY be so sure? Also, it really doesn’t make sense when you realize how big the world is, how much “knowledge” that was taught is biased. Many truths can co-exist, there are so many beautiful brains and sacred souls, countless ways of seeing, living and experiencing this world. I trust the collective wisdom of humanity. I’m really grateful for people who have shown me in the way they live and conduct their work that there are different ways of being, teaching and leading.
