This is not just the story of one Bhutanese refugee family—it reflects the reality faced by countless immigrants and refugees across the United States who live in constant fear and uncertainty. No family should have to fight this hard to stay together, and no newborn child should be separated from their father in this way. The lack of consideration, dignity, and transparency shown by ICE is deeply troubling. The treatment of this family is not only inhumane—it is unjust.
It has been six months since Tika gave birth to their first baby girl, and Mohan has still not been allowed to hold his daughter or hug his wife. While we fight to free Mohan from detention, we will continue advocating for St. Clair County Jail to finally allow Mohan and his family the right to an in-person visit.
