Rashida Tlaib Instagram – This week is Black Maternal Health Week. As we celebrate Black mothers and children, we must be clear about the systemic racism they experience in our country and our medical system.
Let’s call it what it is—it’s a crisis. It’s a national emergency. It is a direct result of structural racism baked into our healthcare system.
Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, and it’s because the system is failing them—period.
I’m a proud co-founder of the Mama’s Caucus, where we are tackling this head-on with partners like @motheringjustice.
