Industrial fishing is ravaging the base of the Antarctic food chain: krill, a tiny creature that the whales, penguins, and seals of the Southern Ocean depend on for survival. Without krill, the entire Antarctic ecosystem faces collapse, impacting life across the globe.

Today, I’m joining the Antarctic Avengers, a group of ocean leaders, scientists, artists, and world leaders who are mobilising to defend our southernmost continent from a greedy fishing industry. We’re calling for an end to krill fishing in the Southern Ocean, and for governments to establish marine protected areas throughout the Antarctic Ocean this year.
