One of my earliest memories is watching this VHS tape called, Michael Jordan’s Playground, over and over, multiple times a day. Specifically making sure to catch the musical number at the end, a song named ‘Anything is Possible’ by Full Force featuring Lisa Lisa and Cheryl Pepsii Riley, that otherwise went unreleased. That has to be the first song I was consciously obsessed with. ‘Proof’ is my first attempt to hunt for a refreshing way to approach how Full Force, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley, Dallas Austin, and many others from the late 80s-early 90s era of black pop music make me feel. It’s less about the nostalgic view for me tbh, more about how any drum programming remotely in that ballpark melts my brain and imo there’s a lot of room to roam still in those bugged out fields. I want to keep exploring all the pockets of music that have inspired me, and continue to get better at producing and writing, hopefully in honor and not in vain of those who’ve laid down the groundwork -chris
Yesterday I lost a friend, a brother, Family………Maverick Gaither 😔 Mav n I go back DECADES! We came up in Brooklyn, in our music community, Grinding! He was a part of my second national tour, singing n playing Saxophone! Voice like butter, Sax so soulful! I would always push n encourage him to branch out n do HIM! He sang n played sax on my project. Had him with me on Showtime at The Apollo singing support and stepping out on our duet! I was soooo geeked for the world to see n hear just how special you were! (We put on a show 🥹) Years later he had me sing a duet with him on his! So Gifted, So Dope, yet so humble! Wonderful Father, Son, Brother, Husband, Veteran, Artist, Friend….. Can’t believe I’m speaking of him in this context…. Really having a hard time even typing this 😔 Thank you Mav for being a part of my journey. For being my family. For sharing stages n your amazing Gift with me n so many others. For all our jokes n the Laughter! Lawd, we laughed! With Kev, with Wince n Desi! With our band! …….This Hurts 💔 Trying to hold on to the fact that you are now with your mom n dad n that you are ok, no pain 🙏🏽 My Deepest Condolences to your babies, your beautiful wife Donna, All your family, friends n colleagues!
