I’ve had a few questions about winter training and how to accept that it might look different—or slightly less—than during other parts of the year.

Whether it’s winter, injury, or just life getting in the way, my best advice is this: create a plan and work with your mind to accept it. Your body will follow your mind.

There is always something you can do to move toward your goal.
Sometimes that means sucking it up on the bike. Other times, a few weeks away from endurance training can actually be beneficial—focusing instead on strength, mobility, mindfulness, or even trying another hobby to give your mind a break.

November was that kind of month for me. I kept my spirit high by biking, hiking, and doing the strength work I could. Most importantly, I reminded myself to be grateful for what I have and what my body can do.
