It has been amazing to once again be associated with the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. I curated here for seven years in theatre, and this time I am curating the Lifestyle space, seeing conversations, panels, and events across various subjects. I am doing this alongside my co curator Ankur Parekh, and a big shout out to my lovely volunteers Khannak, Krish, and Sheetal. My team and i are looking forward to meeting you all at the fest!! Day 1 and the opening event sets a beautiful tone. Dolly Jain, iconic for her mastery of saree draping, travels from Kolkata especially for the event. Seema Singh presents sarees from her designer label, draped on Saiee Manjrekar, celebrating the elegance and continuity of the Indian saree. Day 2 features an engaging panel with Dr. Madhu Chopra, Dr. Neetika Modi, and Terrence Lewis, exploring quantum physics, consciousness, and ancient wisdom, followed by a movement session led by Terrence. Day 2 continues with an all ladies panel, Women, Wealth, and Worthiness in the Creativity Economy, curated by Neha K kanabar, with LXME’S Ridhi Doongursee and influencer Neha Jalan, moderated by RJ Archana Pania, followed by a money manifestation micro workshop by Neha K kanabar. Performed Ekjute’s Ek Lamhaa Zindagi, A Love Story 1938- 1979 for Shoolini University for the students, the teachers, and the trustees. Once again, it was a beautiful experience to perform in their amphitheater🎭 Two years ago, I had performed my play With LoveAap ki Saiyaara here, and Shoolini University remains one of the institutions I truly admire. The ideologies of the Khosla family, especially Chancellor Prem Khosla ji and his wife, beautifully carried forward by the second generation, are inspiring✨️ The students are so artistically inclined with abundant opportunities for alternate learning through poetry, theatre, and nature. The campus itself is nestled in one of the most stunning hill surroundings near Solan. I cannot wait to be back. Jatinder Singh BRAR SAHAB 🎭💔 A life devoted to theatre. A legacy that lives on🤍 Indian theatre has lost one of its rarest visionaries. A mechanical engineer by training, Brar Sahab chose a far more demanding calling and dedicated his entire life to theatre. What he created in Amritsar, Punjab through NAATSHALA continues to leave one in awe. The main theatre space is simple, intimate, and utterly state of the art. The lighting, the seating, the scale, and the use of light and water reflected his clarity of thought. Nothing is excessive, nothing ornamental. Everything serves theatre. The smaller auditorium revealed the man he truly was. Designed especially for the physically challenged, it featured a stage that could descend to floor level at the press of a button, allowing performers on wheelchairs to enter with dignity and ease. Flexible seating, free chairs, no barriers. A space where everyone belonged. There is also a beautiful aangan, a space that carries quiet warmth and welcome. Separately, the green room is the most fabulous I have ever experienced. Not fabulous in expense or flash, but in feel. It was created with heart, thought, and deep respect for theatre and theatre artists. Brar Sahab was the guiding force behind countless artists, especially those who went on to become huge comic stars with national and international recognition. Many artists of Punjab proudly call themselves students of Brar Sahab. I feel deeply fortunate that with my mother Nadira Zaheer Babbar, I performed Ekjute’s Pencil Sey Brush Tak on the life of M F Husain at NAATSHALA, and more recently returned to perform With Love Aap ki Saiyaara at the same space. This photograph is from that visit, a moment I will now hold even closer✨️ Thank you Brar Sahab for blessing generations of theatre artists and for giving your life entirely to theatre. You lived fully, you gave endlessly, and your absence is a profound loss to Indian theatre. My beloved Tauji, Sri Subroto Roy (SaharaShri), always believed that birthdays, anniversaries..are family occasions. Diwali, Eid, Holi…these are community celebrations. But 15th August and 26th January, he said, are days the nation must celebrate🧡🤍💚 For me, he will always be a true patriot🇮🇳 There is never a 15th August or a 26th January when I do not think of him. Every year, I post with the beautiful Bharat Mata statue at Aamby Valley, again a symbol of his vision.
