and no, we’re not talking about food foil! This is silver that’s worn, not eaten.
Chandi Warq is an old Indian block printing style where real silver is used to decorate fabric. Yes — real silver!
Thin sheets of silver are block printed using metal blocks in varied patterns. It’s delicate work and super time-consuming.
Back in the 16th & 17th century, this was worn by kings, queens, and brides. You’d spot it on turbans, dupattas, veils — basically, anything meant to be royal !
But then cheaper imitation like foil work took over and , Chandi Warq slowly died down — because it’s rare and expensive because of the real silver and the skill it uses.
@octoberstore.uk is one such brand that is trying to revive one of the many forgotten gems of Indian textiles in a contemporary fashion, producing sarees, kaftans,shirts and even coord sets. They are also providing certification of real silver.
Their range starts from 4500 and go upto 10K and they also customise fabric in real gold if needed by the client.
