BBC reality show The Traitors has become embroiled in an unconscious bias row, after two black women were the first to be eliminated. It’s not the first time reality shows – or the voting public – have chosen to eliminate ethnic minority contestants first. TV presenter Scarlette Douglas says unconscious bias needs to be discussed more.
Today was a big moment for me in my career on @gmb, to actually speak about my experience as a black woman in the industry. I already know the backlash I’ll get, the comments and the negativity but you know what? If I don’t speak now, I will be silent forever. Thanks for all the Fro love on my stories, so here it is on my grid 🫶🏾🖤 I cut my hair short short, like really short, like skin fade short 2 years ago, then permed it, dyed it, cut it again and ruined it. @paigelewinofficial taught me how to love love it and her book “How to Love your Afro” which I listen to every day, hits home immeasurably and is more relatable to anything I’ve ever read. I don’t know really how to look after my Afro, you’ve seen my wigs on A Place in the Sun (some great, some horrendous) I hid my hair because I didn’t know how to love it, look after it or care for it. Well, I’m not as clued up as Paige, but she’s sure got me on a journey to enjoying this head of hair and I love it! My little fro is healthy, thick, greying but beautiful and this new Jill Scott song has me feeeeeeeling all the feels for it! #afrohair #afro #howtoloveyourafro #loveyourafro #fro
