Wanda Sykes Instagram – Wanda Sykes isn’t holding back. The comedian was set to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” the night ABC pulled him off the air, but that’s not stopping her from taking aim at the president or anyone else. “You can’t really censor yourself like that and give people a good show,” she says. “I can’t. So I don’t.”
In the midst of her current stand-up tour “Please & Thank You,” which runs through March 2026, Sykes looks back on her decades-long comedy career — one that began with a life-changing gig opening for Chris Rock. “Everything started for me with The Chris Rock Show,” she says.
She’s since become one of the sharpest voices in Hollywood — from creating and starring in the hit Netflix series “The Upshaws” to hosting the 2022 Academy Awards, a night she says was “overshadowed” by the Will Smith slap that sent shockwaves around the world. “People talk to me about that night without even mentioning, ‘Oh yeah, you hosted, right?’”
