I join Kenyans in mourning the passing of the great Hon. Raila Odinga. I knew him from up close as one of my father’s dearest friends, and also as a hero to the nation. He was there for my dad and for our family in our moments of celebration and of grief. He shared our family’s milestones and we his. Here is my father’s statement that so beautifully puts into words his love, respect and admiration for a man who gave us so much of himself. Rest in peace, Uncle Raila. My comfort to the whole Odinga family as they come to terms with this monumental loss. My father, Hon. Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o’s statement: A TRIBUTE TO THE ENIGMA, THE SON OF THE SOIL — RT. HON. RAILA AMOLLO ODINGA A powerful man has just rested. A lion has returned to the mountain. The storm has stilled, but the thunder of his footsteps will echo for generations. The sun rose heavy with sorrow, the skies paused in reverence, and the land weeps — not just Kenya, but Africa and the world at large. Because a man like Raila Amollo Odinga does not die. No, he transcends. He takes a break. A halftime. A warrior’s rest after decades on the frontline of justice, democracy, and the dreams of a nation. Raila was never just a politician. He was a movement. A rhythm in our national heartbeat. A voice that thundered in parliament, whispered in prison cells, and sang from the streets of Kibra to the hearts of millions. His was a life poured out — fully, completely — in service of a better Kenya. He was imprisoned, vilified, betrayed, but never broken. Never silent. Never afraid. He stood tall, not because he sought power, but because he was power — the kind that flows from conviction, sacrifice, and the unshakable belief that Kenya could be more. He bore the weight of history, and still had room to carry the hopes of the youth, the forgotten, the voiceless. And even in the harshest political storms, Raila remained the eye — calm, focused, unyielding. (Statement continues in my pinned comments)

Announcement 📣Join me to Make Fibroids Count 🍋🍊🍇🫐 12 years ago, a doctor told me I had tumors growing inside me. The smallest were the size of blueberries. The largest, an orange. He called them “fibroids,” – benign tumors that grow in and around the uterus, and reassured me they were common. “Common” didn’t make it okay. Last July, I ended a decade-plus of suffering in silence and publicly shared my diagnosis for the first time. Women worldwide responded with their own stories. I felt less alone, and more convinced than ever that this is not something we should accept. There’s something deeply wrong when a condition this widespread is this poorly understood. Do you accept this as the status quo? Neither do I. So today, I’m announcing a way for us to be part of the solution together: 🍊#MakeFibroidsCount🍊 I’ve partnered with @foundationwomenshealth to launch a research grant funding scientists who are developing less-invasive treatments for #fibroids. This Black History Month (Feb) and Women’s History Month (Mar), I invite you to join this global call to action. JOIN ME ⬇️ 1. Donate at MakeFibroidsCount.org. Every dollar funds research for the millions of women living with fibroids worldwide. 2. Start your own fundraiser via @GoFundMe at MakeFibroidsCount.org. Share why fibroid research matters to you and invite your community to give in your honor. 3. Share your story. Post an image with fruit representing the invisible burden you carry and tag #MakeFibroidsCount. Your courage helps the next woman feel less alone. Link in bio to donate and to start your own campaign. Every dollar makes a difference. Every story breaks the silence. Every post challenges the status quo.

Happy Gotcha Day, Yoyo! Video of some of my precious first snuggles with this purrfect guy 2 years ago. 🐈🥹Thank you forever @bestfriendsanimalsociety! ❤️ #PetAdoption
At the link in bio, take two minutes and sign the letter asking your US Congressional representatives to close the NIH funding gap for women’s health research in the upcoming 2026 federal budget. Chronic underinvestment exists for a *long* list of women’s health conditions and we deserve so much better. Your voice can help ensure that women’s health is no longer treated as an afterthought, but as a national priority. #WomensHealth
Once a Roz, always a Roz 🤖✅ Happy 1st birthday to @thewildrobot movie!! 🎂 #thewildrobot
Yoyo taking “don’t let the cat out of the bag” to heart. 😹🛍️ #Caturday #YOYOYYO
🚦This is your sign to add your name to our letter asking Congress to fund women’s health research in the 2026 federal budget! 🔗 Link in bio – it takes 2 minutes. This month, we spoke with House and Senate members about how women’s bodies have been ignored by medical research for too long — And now, these representatives need to hear from YOU. 📣 Send your letter today and let’s close the research gap together.

Today is the one year birthday of my podcast, Mind Your Own 🎂 To celebrate, I’m revisiting a little easter egg: In each episode’s show notes, I placed bits of wisdom from African proverbs as hidden gems to take away. Some are ancient, some I made up. 🔎 💎 Swipe to find the proverb that speaks to you, and hit play! 🎧 If you’re new to the podcast, welcome! This show was a dream project for me, and because of our amazing listeners, Mind Your Own is now an award-winning (!!), five-star rated (!!) storytelling podcast from the African perspective — designed to be an enjoyable, cozy, honest and playful exploration of what it means to belong 🧡🌍💛 Listen to the first episode, and then jump around however you like. Available wherever you get your podcasts.
