Nicola Coughlan Instagram – Famine has now been officially declared in Gaza — for the first time ever in the Middle East.
This is not a natural disaster, it is a man-made catastrophe, created by the Israeli government’s blockade, and denial of humanitarian access.
More than half a million Palestinians are trapped in starvation conditions, with children and families bearing the brunt. In July alone, 12,000 children were identified as acutely malnourished — the highest monthly figure ever recorded.
Starvation is being used as a weapon of war which is a war crime under international law.
At least half a million people are facing acute malnutrition and death. Our partners have food and urgent aid ready to distribute at the border
We must continue to demand urgent action:
– An immediate ceasefire
– Full humanitarian access and an end to the blockade
– Suspension of all arms sales fueling this horror
Governments cannot continue to look away. We can not say we did not know.
