Uma Thurman Instagram – Today we celebrate Nena Thurman on her 85th birthday!
Nena has lived a life of remarkable depth, beauty, and service. From her early years in the world of art and fashion as a renowned high-fashion model, to her lifelong dedication as an activist for human rights, she has consistently chosen a path of purpose and integrity.
Together with her husband, Bob Thurman, she devoted her life to the noble cause of Tibet and to preserving its culture of wisdom and compassion.
Nena and Bob are the proud parents of four children—Ganden, Uma, Dechen, and Mipham—and four wonderful grandchildren. As Managing Director of Tibet House US for more than fifteen years, Nena guided the organization through a period of tremendous growth, producing many landmark events, including with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 2002, she also undertook the development of Menla, helping shape it into the sanctuary retreat center it is today.
Those who know her know this: much of what Nena offers happens quietly—through grace, devotion, and deep love for her family, her community, and humanity at large.
