Angelica Ross Instagram – On Friday, California gubernatorial candidate Dr. @butchware spoke at the “Health Care Day of Action” rally at the Capitol in Sacramento in support of Assembly Bill 1900. AB1900, also known as CalCare, was reintroduced last month and aims to provide California residents with single-payer universal healthcare.
Current sitting governor @gavinnewsom ran on a promise to make single-payer healthcare a reality for Californians. This is his eighth and final year in office and he has the opportunity to follow through on his promise before his term is up.
In April (next month), AB1900 will be voted on in the Assembly Health Committee. In May, it will be voted on in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. And if it passes there, it will then make it to the State Assembly for a floor vote by all 80 assembly members.
To help this bill pass, start calling your assembly members and pressure them to vote in support.
Additionally, you can get your unions and other organizations to cast a public endorsement for the bill. AB1900 is already emphatically endorsed by the California Nurses Association @calnurses
Lastly, the California primary is on June 2nd. Green Party candidate @butchware is the only candidate who has campaigned with a primary focus on universal healthcare. At Friday’s CalCare rally, he reaffirmed his support of this critical piece of legislation alongside other public figures like Seattle socialist politician @cm.kshama , PUSD Board President Tina Fredericks, @calstatela professor Dr. @docmellymel and Melanie Cohen of @codepinkalert and alongside a coalition of people-powered organizations like @cusp_hq @hc4us @sgvprogressiveaction @ca.greens @feeltheberndotorg @ourrevolution and more.
