Help, I think I’m addicted to @oliviadeano
I honestly never get the urge to write long instagram captions but recently I’ve been feeling sort of disconnected- like I’m posting content just to check a box off my to-do list. I want us to feel like we’re developing a cool relationship where we can all connect through our shared love of music and the human experience. I was scrolling through my camera roll tonight & stumbled across some pictures from a trip my manager and I took to Nashville in February, 2024. That week would respark my love for music. I think that’s something that’s going to happen repeatedly over the course of my life- the feeling jaded and then rediscovering the inspiration and the joy over and over again. Most of the songs I wrote on that trip will probably never see the light of day, but luckily, the one you’re listening to now did. I fell in love with that song. It was one of the first real things that came out of my brain and I could not wait to put it out. I spent so much time obsessing over it, re-recording things and overthinking mixes and adding and subtracting elements, anxious for it to be released and now that it is, I suddenly find myself getting annoyed at promoting it. This thing that was so important to me suddenly became another box to check off. The social media grind is a strange one for artists to tackle. You feel so deeply about a piece of art and then you kind of need to keep shoving it at people until it eventually picks up some notoriety and you’re completely sick of it. That’s just kinda how it goes these days but one thing is absolutely true. If you truly love your art, there are other people who will too. Other people who haven’t heard it over and over and are finding it and connecting with it for the very first time. I spent this afternoon editing single art for my next release and as I get ready to distribute the upcoming songs, I am antsy to get them out. And so the cycle repeats itself. To sum this up, if you’re a musician feeling at all blocked or jaded, keep creating and keep sharing- even if it feels tedious, even if you feel like you’re annoying people (yourself included). Your art deserves to be shared with the world. Now go get after it.
