I made a promise to myself when we first came out with Self-Conscious. I wanted to go into it being a fully curious human being. Someone without any right answers and an openness that could certainly bring upon all sorts of criticisms. To be honest, I have maybe listened to just a couple episodes myself, just to mentally prepare for whatever headlines or questions would come my way. But for the most part, I like to let it out into the wild and let people have whatever takes they have. I prayed someone out there would feel seen, loved, understood.
I feel like if I listened to them, I’d have too much room to edit down all the heart I want from them. I’d probably cut some of the choke-sobbing, I’d overthink a joke I made that might not look so great standing on its own without the context of all the things said around it.
So that’s really what the podcast is. Something I put out, then kind of just…run away from. I don’t look at the reviews, the viewership, the numbers. Which on one level is very freeing, but on another level, totally terrifying because you want people to love something you love so deeply and I’m over here in the dark! But this 😭 this means someone is watching. And the level of gratitude I feel is right now is on a different level. Thank you guys for listening and understanding all the messiness that goes into making a life worth living. I am so honored and happy to be on this exhausting little journey we’ve decided upon – trying to be better people for our family, our friends and most of all, ourselves.
