Jessica Chastain Instagram – Our October issue, starring the effervescent and brilliant Jessica Chastain on the cover is on sale today. And there’s a story behind the cover story. Yesterday news came in that the series she was promoting, The Savant, was to be postponed indefinitely. The eight-part series, based on a true story, sees Chastain play a woman who spends her evenings infiltrating predominantly male online hate groups in an attempt to stop violent acts of white supremicist extremism.
The vague statement about the series’ postponement and the timing of the announcement – two weeks after the assasination of right-wing agitator Charlie Kirk – suggests that The Savant, alongside Jimmy Kimmel Live!, is another casuality in the US culture wars, where the anticipation of censorship begets actual censorship and the only winner is the president who wants to be king.
“Every day we were [filming, the crew] were like, ‘Can you believe how timely all this is?’” Chastain tells marie claire. “I hate that it still captures everything we are reading about in the news now.”
We’re disappointed in the decision to postpone the release of The Savant: we believe the series is exactly the kind of show America – and the world – needs right now.
