Kumiko Love Instagram – When I saw that my property taxes increased over 150% in the last 6 years, I wanted to throw up and I felt really angry.
When I bought my home with cash, I remember feeling this huge sense of relief. I had spent years saving for it, working toward that goal, and it felt like I finally owned my home.
But looking back at my property taxes over the past six years honestly surprised me.
Property taxes are something most homeowners do not fully think about when they buy a house. Most of the focus is on the purchase price or the mortgage payment.
But property taxes are one of the biggest ongoing costs of homeownership and they can change significantly over time depending on home values, reassessments, improvements to the property, and local levies.
This experience forced me to really understand how property taxes work and what they actually fund in our communities.
It is one of those parts of homeownership that many people do not fully think about until they are living it.
