The police chief shown in the iconic photos (mid-air jumping the fence in pursuit right after Amir Balat lit/attempted to deploy the explosive device) is NYPD Chief Aaron Edwards, who holds the rank of Assistant Chief, specifically assigned to Patrol Borough Manhattan North at the time.
Multiple sources, including eyewitness accounts on X and official statements, identify him as the one who vaulted the barricade/fence to chase down the suspect during the March 7/8, 2026 incident near Gracie Mansion. NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly commended him by name during a March 9 press conference for running toward the danger, alongside Sergeant Luis Navarro (another officer involved in the response and apprehension).
He is a hero. Give him the gold shield. I am grateful every day for the men and woman in our law enforcement. They put their lives on the line every single day so we can all live ours, they are the first ones we call in an emergency. They run towards danger when everyone else runs away. They are paid too little and have been put through insane levels of disrespect the past five years in our country that have been an embarrassment.
These are the most perilous of times, again, God Bless our Police who keep us safe. Fund them all. Support them always.
