This law still exists in Canada – Turtle Island – WHY? @davidebybc … Section 43 of the criminal code allows parents, caregivers and educators to use force toward a pupil or child as a means of correction, “if the force does not exceed what is reasonable under the circumstances‘ – obviously this law can be abused and, while it has been amended, it is still a terrible reminder and trigger for survivors of the residential school system. This law should be repealed immediately. It tells of a government that is not fully committed to truth and reconciliation and making a clear break from Canada’s woeful human rights record.
