Sophia Bush Instagram – It was an honor to attend this year’s @naacpimageawards. It always is, honestly, but this year it felt even more important to show up and make noise for Black art, Black music, Black legacy, Black love, and Black joy.
I am the luckiest woman to call @nialauryn my best friend. To call her Uncle Louis @iamlouiscarr my bonus uncle. To have worked alongside some of the incredible talents in this room on screen and on sets. And even luckier to have advocated and organized for good alongside some of the leaders in this room, to build a better America for all. Our nation wouldn’t be what it is without the immeasurable contributions of Black people. Of communities of color. Of women who’ve paved the way and still been denied their rights. Organizations like the NAACP fight to see discrimination stopped. And to be invited to partake in this celebration is something I don’t take for granted.
I cherish and learn from the work of the @naacp. I am in awe of what Louis has done at the helm of @bet; what he has built when people used to say it couldn’t be done. I had chills listening to @violadavis, got teary and (very) cheery for @michaelbjordan, and shouted my ass off for the aunties @saltnpepaofficial who raised all of us 90s kids. And @keke! My dearest @reggiehudlin! Sweet Sterling @sterlingkbrown! @repmaxinewaters! Ryan Coogler and Delroy Lindo! @mayorofla! Every speech, every joke (ahem @deoncole took us to church), a perfect night.
