Steph Catley Instagram – Nearly impossible to put into words exactly what I’m feeling today, but I’m going to try… As the final whistle blew yesterday, I looked around at my teammates, my friends, my family, and felt the weight of every single one of their hearts breaking. I’ve watched their sacrifices, their triumphs and failures. I’ve seen the toll and what it’s taken for each one of them to arrive at that moment, only to ultimately fall short of the silverware we’ve been chasing for so many years now. More than anything, I wanted a chance to truly celebrate with this group that I’ve grown up alongside. We’ve worked our entire lives to reach a moment like that, and getting so close, feeling so close to achieving what we’ve always dreamed of, is devastating. And yet… looking up into the stands, all the way to the very highest seat in the stadium, I saw and heard every single one of our fans. The way it felt to play in front of that crowd, to represent Australia and the Matildas in that moment, knowing how supported we are, is something that I’ll forever be proud of. I love being Australian, and I love this team more than I can put into words. I’m proud of how we represented Australia last night, and we’ll continue to work, develop, and improve to always make you proud. So thank you, as always, for showing up for us.
