I have learned so much in the last few years especially when it comes to protein and muscle. Protein isn’t just for bodybuilders! It’s for energy, hormones, metabolism, mood, brain function, and yes… muscle!!! Muscle is what keeps your metabolism working, your bones strong, your blood sugar stable, and your body functioning! Here’s the part I didn’t know. 🫣 If you don’t eat enough protein, your body literally cannot build muscle. Say what?! You can work out every day, lift weights, do Pilates, walk, whatever… but without enough protein, your body doesn’t have the building blocks to repair and grow muscle tissue. This was a game changer for me. 🐥 After about age 30, we naturally start losing muscle every year. Less muscle means slower metabolism, weaker bones, higher risk of injury, and more hormone issues. SO THAT IS WHY there is so much talk about protein! 😱 A little protein here and there isn’t the same as hitting the amount your body needs. Most research suggests women should aim for roughly 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of goal body weight per day especially if you want to build muscle, maintain muscle, or support metabolism during perimenopause and beyond. 🫣🎉🥳 And yes… that can be hard to hit if you don’t know where protein actually comes from!!
