Kota Eberhardt Instagram – I snapped this photo of a Mayan woman browsing a marketplace in San Pedro. It is truly remarkable that over 6 million people continue to identify themselves as Mayan today, and that in Guatemala alone they still make up over 1/2 the country’s overall population! They have been conquered twice, most notably by the conquistadors, enslaved and nearly erased as relevant to modern history.
