How do I explain
that her rebellion
is actually conforming to
an over-sexualized
consumer culture?
How do you teach her to love her body
and then turn around and tell her
to hide it well
so she doesn’t get attacked?
How do you tell her that Instagram
is the new stripper pole
and hundreds of ”likes”
are the dollar bills.
How do you tell her
where we have come from
and what her source of power really is?
I want her to be uninhibited.
A sexual being,
because the power…
it is there, too.
I have an untameable girl
and she honours her mother’s

as she purposefully
rolls up her skirt and waits watching for the look on my face watching her father cringe
and she is every teenager

Right now the world tells her the truth is

is be proud of her screaming,

and it will speak differently to her.
