A wondrous moment during last night’s premiere of new #Netflix docuseries FIVE CAME BACK when George Stevens Jr. produces two artifacts, kept for 40 years in his Washington DC desk, from his father’s years as a Hollywood filmmaker covering WWII: one was his father’s punchcard detailing the pay cut he took (from making $3,000/wk in 1942 Hollywood to $250/month working for US gov’t war effort) and the other was the post office stamping device he took from the abandoned #Dachau post office, with the date on the handle reading 4/24/45…the day before US troops entered the concentration camp.
