Lisa Ray Instagram – Coming up, a rare intersection of creativity and conversation I personally live for…
The Girls Are Coming…
Extraordinarily excited and honoured to get the opportunity to be in conversation with incandescent @tishanidoshi, my muse and inspiration of many years. #thegirlsarecomingoutofthewoods is a poetry collection which must be shared, repeated and released into a world that needs the burning/healing embers of Tishani’s words and the poetry of her movement.
Happy happy to announce two Bombay showings of #girlsarecomingoutofthewoods. Stop 1: December 10 @ mehboob studios as part of the fabulous initiative ‘We the Women,’ and Stop 2: December 16 for the Times Lit Fest @ mehboob studios with poet-pixie fellow-mixie woman-of-my-heart Lisa Ray, 12pm. See you there 🦋

Lisa Ray Instagram – I was a crooked girl
with a patchy pedigree
and a taste for
the discoloured
corners of the soul.
There’s more to it, of course,
when you’re made of matter
when bones and blood and
marbled thighs
can’t prevent drenching desires
from flooding
a world baptised by doubt.
I used to think it very important to know
how to debone Dover sole, then
came across off duty waiters,
who looked like all the
damaged lovers I’d ever known.
So I tried to straighten out by
bending into the edges of things
but the furies took it personally and
withdrew their support of my deficiencies
and everyone knows there’s no eulogy
for beauty.
I drank to uncommon ruin while a fire
scorched footpaths in my head
laying waste the eclipse of love
by the thoughts that led me astray.
Now I have become patience.
Everyday I fail, I fall.
I press bone on bone, bone on masonry
and I don’t take it personally when the shop
attendant leaves me to answer the phone.
She knows there are no sacred egos.
Now I am one of those. – lisaraniray @protestpoet
