Andy Puddicombe Instagram – #monasterymonday …it might just look like a bit of old rope, but like anything, the significance is in the meaning we give it. This is my old monks belt, which represents commitment. As you fold the lower half of the robes, one fold faces backwards and signifies leaving worldly life behind and letting go of the non-virtuous; the other fold faces forwards and signifies following a new path and adopting the wholesome. The belt is the commitment that holds the intention in place. It’s also just 1 of 5 items of clothing from the official everyday robes. And yeah, I kept a set…you know, just in case 😊 I guess everything has as much or as little meaning as we choose to give it…even a bit of old rope!
