Because there are no people on this earth
Too poor
Too beat down
Too uneducated
Too incapable of helping to fulfill
Their worth
Because America is the land of huddled masses
Because that’s how deep
How real
How moral
How humane
Is democracy’s girth
Because we are the land of opportunity
Because we continue to struggle
For racial peace
And human propriety
“The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me”
Cry the patina-d lips of Lady Liberty
Because unlike their countries
These people have talent and goals
Because these people
Have beating hearts and hungry souls
Because
Though their countries may be
These people
