Mike Theiss Instagram – Intense supercell thunderstorm with multiple lightning bolts striking the ground at the same time in Kansas after a long day of storm chasing. The sound was so loud it left my ears ringing for over an hour. Lightning is a massive electrostatic discharge between the electrically charged regions within clouds or between a cloud and the surface of the planet. The charged regions within the atmosphere temporarily equalize themselves through a lightning flash, referred to as a “strike” if it hits an object on the ground.
