Lisa Ray Instagram – Too thought provoking and lyrical not to share 🙏🏼 I say, turn over leadership to the artists, the poets, the ones who are deeply aware of human fallibility, who wrestle with identity and question more than they assert. The ones who psychologically negotiate wounds to intuit the lessons delivered in those deep gashes of spirit, flesh and mind. These are the ones who should be steering us back to sanity. Imagine. Just, imagine. Repost from @shiloshivsuleman using @RepostRegramApp – ⁣⠀ This is a tale of two tongues. ⠀ Sometimes we spell left to right in urdu ⠀ Other times right to left in sanskrit⠀ but the words in between are often the same.⠀ Aseem ⠀ Incanted in one tongue:⠀ असीम ⠀ Unbounded, boundless, eternal, borderless⠀ (who makes the border?)⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Spelt in another:⠀ ⁣عاصم ⠀ Protector, guardian⠀ (who is protecting what, for whom?)⠀ Over night, the streets of the Valley were emptied. Kashmiri voices were silenced. And the law of the land changed. Thousands of new troops were moved into what was already one of the world’s most militarised zones. What happens when land, life and language become occupied? When force, brutality, an occupation are masked as a ‘resolution’? ⠀ ⁣عاصم / ⁣⁣असीम Kashmir⠀ ⠀ guarded/without borders⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The Kashmiri people don’t recognise these borders; they have chosen red as the colour of their resistance: lal. ⠀ Lalla is the colour of Kashmir’s resistance and the name of a 14th century female poet from Kashmir who is loved by both Hindus and Muslims. She wore nothing on her body, roamed the mountain landscapes and like many in this subcontinent, drew deep from both wells.⠀ She was un-occupied.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Aseem.⠀ असीम / ⁣عاصم ⠀ Unbound, protected and eternal.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ There is a saying in Kashmiri: only two words have any meaning- Lalla and Allah.⠀ Both remain- boundless.⠀ “Dance Lalla, with nothing but air,⠀ Sing lalla, wearing the sky.”⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Fearless stands in solidarity with those who are in defence of an unoccupied, unbound Kashmir.
