Lisa Ray Instagram – My dear friend @taramacleanmusic has written this online response to an anonymous scathingly critical letter she received for her show Atlantic Blue. She writes from her open, wise heart and this is something ALL women must read. As Tara says: Every encounter, even a hostile one, is an opportunity to flex our compassion muscles. I feel for the woman who sent this note. She missed the opportunity for civil discourse. Though I do not know who you are, because you didn’t have the courage to sign it, and you camouflaged it in a pretty card, you made it clear that I deeply offended you due to the sometimes risqué comments I make in my show. I am so grateful for the opportunity to receive your mean spirited words, because myself and the entire cast turned the show into a powerful antidote to the shame you tried to project onto me. I make no apologies for who I am, and if I want to speak of the boys, or the girls I have kissed, I will. I am as corrupt as I am innocent, as powerful as I am vulnerable, as cheap as I am priceless and I will be as shocking and provocative as I wish. It’s my show. I am the one taking off all my armour and laying my heart on that stage. I am the one taking the chances and expressing myself in my full power as a woman. So I do not accept the gift of your shame. I cast all of mine off long ago and there is no room for it in my sphere. And I am teaching my daughters the same. I am erotic, a priestess, a poet and a mother, and nothing and no one can dim my light. I will shine as fiercely as I can and I will be as dark as my shadow side. I am not here to be PEIs sweetheart and fit into a mould that you expect of me. I am not the shape of anything you have seen before and somehow I threaten the parts of you that are still oppressed, still screaming for liberation. I have come too far to allow your puritanical morality to penetrate the forcefield of the work. I have done thousands of shows over 25 years, and I am exactly the same person
