Anthony Daniels Instagram – @tobbyleking asks why Threepio’s name was sometimes 6-PO. This was only in the French language version, and only in the first trilogy. It was thought that Z-6PO worked better when dubbed. Here’s how my French friend Roland explains it:
« Le nom Z-6PO avait été choisi pour les 3 épisodes en version française sortis initialement pour que cela aille mieux avec la prononciation labiale des acteurs. Par la suite, pour les épisodes suivants et pour les épisodes initiaux remastérisés, les traducteurs sont revenus à C-3PO. »
