I was put in charge of the character Calliope this episode, and loved how she turned out. I start with roughs (second image), and when one is chosen, I refine it into a turnaround (the one shown is only a partial turn haha). Then I may get assigned “special poses”, or difficult poses our bosses are concerned might cause trouble for our animators. What’s satisfying about that last stage is that I can see the closest thing to my actual work on screen as I can get it (last image). .

Character design is more than just fun rough ideas. It’s loads of technical work and I genuinely love each step. Haha.
