Michelle Borth Instagram – The Times Herald-Record June 13th, 2020 reported by Mike Randall

I’d just like to take a moment and just say how proud I am of my momma. She drove to West Point to protest for #blacklivesmatter during President Trumps commencement speech, along with 300 other individuals. An immigrant who came to this country for a better life, she has been fighting for equality and democracy before I was even conceived. Everything I know to be true and believe was taught and instilled in me at first breath from a woman with deep compassion and love for humanity. If ever there was an example of how we need to inform and educate our kids about the injustice and equalities that still exist in this world, I am it. I was taught to be grateful, to be kind, to be strong, to use my intellect, to be confident, to be responsible for my own actions, to give, to have compassion and empathy, to use my voice, to work hard. to not take anything for granted, and to love without prejudice. If that’s not worthy of spotlighting, I don’t know what is. The irony here is I never wanted to be anything like my mother when growing up, we had a “difficult” relationship to put it nicely. Now as an adult I’ve never been more proud to say I am my mothers daughter completely through and through. She paved a path for me to succeed I never would have had the opportunity had she not come to this country. It wasn’t easy. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into providing a life for her children she has so bravely sacrificed for and has never asked for anything in return. Thank you for not giving on up me. Thank you for teaching me values. Thank you for never making excuses. Thank you for showing me right from wrong . Thank you for staying true to who you are and what you believe. Thank you for instilling me with the resilience and resolve that only a single mother like you can. When the world becomes a difficult and scary place your blood runs through me and I hear “get up mammina”! Because we don’t run and hide, we show up and fight for what’s right. It’s a privilege to be your daughter.
