I know yesterday was National Book Lover’s Day. I’m not a day late, I’m 364 days early for next year! I love reading for pleasure, and in my life I also get to read for my work. The One and Only Ivan was a book I really responded to, so that’s why I wanted to be in the movie. Enjoy!

Hi. About now you’re probably feeling a little tied down, restricting your mobility and like me, you’re tired of this!! Well, I just want to encourage you to have a little more patience. I was pretty strict in adhering to the protocols and still… I contracted the virus. Yep. it sounds daunting now that over 150,000 Americans are dead because of it. I was one of the lucky ones. Mild symptoms. I count my blessings and urge you to keep wearing the damn mask, keep washing your hands, and stay socially distant. We can prevail – but ONLY if we follow the rules together. Tomorrow I’ll be diving back into the worlds of Godzilla and Wakefield. One battles an unknown monster and the other deals with isolation… sound familiar?
Godzilla was the first movie I did after Breaking Bad and you’ll be happy to see that I have a full head of hair. Wakefield was an independent feature I did a few years ago and I have EVEN MORE hair. I’m mourning the great John Lewis. I’ve spoken to him a few times in private, and he came to my Broadway play, All The Way, about Lyndon Johnson, Martin Luther King, and the civil rights act of 1964. He was gracious and kind and a fierce proponent of peaceful protest for human dignity and justice. He will be missed, but his legacy is evident in #BLM and will live on. Rest now, sir, you’ve done your part…now it’s up to us.

I’m saddened today to learn of the passing of Royanna Black. This picture is how I remember her. She played the titular character in a series called “Raising Miranda” back in 1988. I played her wacky uncle on the show. She was so impressive, and not just her talent, but her intelligence and warmth. So sweet. So observant. My favorite moment was one day when I watched her studying our co-star, James Naughton’s face, and finally realized something. She announced to anyone within earshot, “I know who you look like now! You look like Fred Flintstone!” James was stunned, while I fell off my chair with laughter. Dear Royanna, not intending her pronouncement to be insulting, quickly added, “…in a good way.” Which brought me to hysterics – and even made James laugh. Great memories. Rest now, old friend, you are fondly remembered and dearly loved.

I just watched a remarkable documentary called The Fight. A surprisingly human and ultimately heroic examination of 4 civil rights attorneys, who clearly didn’t enter into law to get rich. Their motivation is justice. I felt their individual struggle and passion for their work, and rooted for their victories big and small. It’s entertaining and eye-opening.
