*NOTE: Our trip was just before the greater Jasper area was hit with a devastating forrest fire. When the area recovers, they will be in great need to get up and running again and welcome tourists back to this glorious part of the world. It’s worth the trip. —————— Hello again for the next part of the journey… We set off by way of the Rocky Mountaineer train tour, snaking through the Canadian Rockies to Jasper. Tablecloth service, excellent food, beautiful scenery, nice folks… and I remained mostly unrecognized for the trip. I often get asked “Has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like Bryan Cranston?” To which I reply, “Yes. You know, I’ve heard that a lot.” And then go about my way… In Jasper we arrived in perfect weather. They were expecting us at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and we had a beautiful log cabin to settle in for a couple days… A man of the wild… with his plush robe and hot cappuccino. We took a tour on the spectacular Maligne Lake. And yes, it really is turquoise… stunning views on this glacial lake. They’re not immune to forrest fires and had a really bad one a few years ago. We’re told, this one was started by carelessness. A shame. Back at the cabin, the attentive Fairmont staff wanted to make sure that we had a close encounter with some wild life. I had no idea Grizzlies could be that delicious. We dined that night at the hotel (why leave perfection?) and tried a Bison steak… Very tasty and tender… The next day it was time to say goodbye to the Jasper Park Lodge. As we headed out, we saw a mama grizzly and her cubs along a lake… I wanted to go taste that one too, but Robin advised against that… I wonder why? Tomorrow it’s on to Lake Louise… see you then, Bryan

Ever been to Western Canada? It’s absolutely stunning. From the metropolitan setting of the vibrant Vancouver, to the Wild West town of Calgary, and all the magnificent scenery of the Canadian National Parks in between. Come along for a little arm-chair traveling with my wife, Robin and I, as I document our journey over the next few days to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary… Our first stop was actually not in Canada. Traveling has its rewards but also its challenges. Our flight out of LA to Vancouver was delayed for over 8 hours! So, we pivoted and took the next available flight to Seattle instead. We booked a room at the grand, historic Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Walking distance to the famous Pike Place Market (where they throw the fish… google that), and the home of the original Starbucks Coffee shop. The restaurant staff in the hotel had a framed photo from our wedding day on our table… a really sweet gesture – man, we were so young. The food was great too. Since we were in Seattle instead of Vancouver – we took a Sea Plane the next morning to the Canadian city… what fun that is. While at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, the staff placed a bottle of champagne and a personalized chocolate treat for when we arrived in the beautiful room. It really is our anniversary trip… but if it wasn’t, would it be so wrong to fib and say it was?! Who am I to judge? I saw a couple things there at the hotel that I’d never seen before… Tomorrow it’s on to Jasper by train… We’ll continue the journey then. Bye for now. Bryan

Today we head down highway 93, the Icefields Parkway… the scenery continues to astonish… It’s hard to take a bad shot in this environment. And when you see a cluster of cars along the side of the road it is usually due to a wildlife sighting… Coming upon the Columbia Ice field was a surprise to me… this glacier that I walked on over 55 years ago on a similar summer day, was now a fraction of the size it used to be… Climate Change in full effect. When we arrived at astonishing Lake Louise, it took our breath away. This Lake is how I remembered it when I was last here in 1971. And in reverse angle the majestic Chateau Lake Louise, one of the Crown Jewels of the Fairmont Hotels. This is a “must stay” because it is the only hotel on the lake, and in the mornings and evenings it feels like you have it all to yourself. The canoe ride across the lake was so peaceful and serene. And for the foodies out there, check this out… Robin shouted “Don’t eat it!… take a picture first.” Right. And delicious. The next day we set off on a hike nearby at the incredible Lake Moraine… We just kept shaking our heads at the pure beauty. Where the angle of Lake Louise makes it look a Gorgeous Green, the angle of Lake Moraine turns it a Brilliant Blue. It was time to wrap up our stay at the Chateau, so about 10:30pm (sun sets very late this far north) I took this shot from our balcony of a very peaceful Lake Louise… Till next time, Goodnight, Your Majesty. Tomorrow we head further south to Banff… see ya then. Bryan

Tomorrow we head further south to Banff… see ya then.
We at Dos Hombres just celebrated 5 years on the market and we couldn’t be more grateful to each and every one of you who have supported us along the way. We are so proud to bring this beautifully complex spirit to the world and share some incredible history from Oaxaca with all of you. Here’s to many more years raising a glass with one another. Remember, it’s not tequila. Its tequilas older more sophisticated and much cooler relative, Mezcal. Salud friends! 🥃🖤🇲🇽
