Shoshannah Stern Instagram – I will never walk in the shoes of the black community, but I stand with them. I know I have my white privilege, both inside and outside the deaf community, to hide behind. I always do my best work when I go silent on social media. Right now for me that work requires reading, learning, checking on people and educating myself and others through having difficult conversations. Yesterday I went down to the epicenter of the protests and the riots that followed, which is very close to us. I sat with my daughter. We had conversations with each other and with other people. While there was some damage and it was very sad to see, we also saw that it was nowhere as bad as the news made it look. We watched people come together in respect and in love and help clean up. I was reminded that sometimes silence speaks the loudest and I pledge to continue to work as hard as I can.
