Gloria Steinem Instagram – In 1984, I attended a campaign rally in Pennsylvania where the cheers for the activists were greater than those for the politicians. That day, I realized that any of us who were recognizable as part of a social justice movement had to use ourselves to support the candidates we believed in. However controversial our movements might be, at least voters know that they stand for principles. Being backed by a movement was a signal that politicians are not all alike.

Today, the Democratic candidates running in Pennsylvania make clear they’re not just backed by a movement – they ARE the movement. They are fighting for clean air and clear water, for women’s health and reproductive rights, and for fair wages for working people.

I hope you support and champion them as you would the causes you hold most dear.

@janetdiazforpastatesenate2020 – A Lancaster native passionate about advocating for her community and focused on improving Pennsylvania’s mental healthcare system.
