Bonjour mes amours 🌱
The world has been in great transition, and I think many of us (very much including myself here) have felt destabilized emotionally, mentally, and physically. I’ve wanted to be intentional in how to react to the world. My partner @davidrysdahl and I decided to put together a little igtv show about climate and climate justice! It’s called “Zazie Talks Climate”! It’s meant to be an easy conversational approach to everything that encompasses the environment and our relationship with it. I’ll be talking about food, fashion, soil, policy, inequality, and how we can move forward. My first guest is @mary.heglar 🌼 She is a climate justice advocate, a writer, and she co-hosts the wonderful podcast “Hot Take” with Amy Westervelt. As you can imagine, it’s also about climate and how it intersects with….everything 🙂
We asked Mary to share an organization that she would want us to donate to, and she chose @thisiszerohour – a youth coalition that will be holding a protest against environmental racism on September 25th in New York City. So check them out. Also make sure to take a look at Mary’s newsletter “Real Hot Take”!
Anyhooeeeeeeww, thanks for checking it out! The DOPE theme music was made by our good friends @blkgrapefruit and thank you @nrdc_org for supporting us through this process!
We are so happy to be learning as we make this show- about the world and how we all impact one another. We are atoms interconnecting. Our movement, our kisses, our love is felt by all. Keep offering joy and peace.

Happy (belated) bornnnn dayyyy, Randa! Another glowing rotation around the sun 🌞 She is a healer, a lover, and will also throw down for a chill azz time. She and her husband Brian make beautiful, spiritual, music that make you feel free and deep and like a dance goddess. I LOVE their sound. They’re Black Grapefruit. They came out with a music video last month for one of my favorite songs, “Waist” (but you have to listen to their whoooollee album!!! Also called “Waist”) When I listen to their tunes I’m in my strength and power, and it ripples through my body. They’ve been using music as a way to process loss, pain, healing, and connecting to the universe that binds all of us. You can find everything on all streaming services.
Really though, really listen to their albums straight through. They’re stories with arcs. I love their songs “Birfday”, “Sweattt”, “Forget”. I just want you to feel their vibe the way I do. Happy July to all my cancerians! My mama is a cancer, and this is the month for the water to flow and the heart to grow 🌱 Wanted to share the music that’s helped me do that @blkgrapefruit

Hello earthlings!
Today on Zazie Talks Climate, we will be exploring the power of the ocean 🐠 with marine biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. She is the founder and CEO of @UrbanOceanLab (which is what we are donating to this week!!), co-editor of the book @AllWeCanSave (coming out September 22nd), and co-host of the podcast @how2saveaplanet. She is a prolific writer as well and has a lot of incredibly inspiring work under her belt. I can’t wait to for you to listen to her talk about the seven seas and all of the hope they bring, but also how fervently we need to protect our oceans. Enjjoyyyyyyy episode two!

Tonight at 8pm EST I will be doing a live reading of “Up in The Air”, written by @jasonreitman and Sheldon Turner. Link to watch in bio! But most importantly, this reading is being put together by Acting for a Cause, an organization that has partnered with @eifoundation to support their art education program, @sinaichicago , and @yourrightscamp 🖤 The Know Your Rights Camp was founded by @kaepernick7 and was created with the mission “to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders.” I have donated, and if you feel that you can swing it yourself, please go to actingforacause.org (link in bio) in order to give what you can! Acting for a cause is run by volunteers, so our donations fully count toward the causes being supported. But again, no pressure to give. You can also watch for free or just spread the word on these great organizations. Black lives matter, always.

And for episode three of Zazie Talks Climate, we are talking with Patrick Houston! This time we are focusing on HOW to engage in local politics. Not knowing who to call or what to say always stopped me in the past from actually doing anything- it’s simpler than you’d think! Patrick works for New York Communities for Change (NYCC): an organization that fights for racial and economic climate justice in the greater New York area. Their focus is to empower low income or underrepresented communities while challenging the corporate powers that loom over the city. This week, we will be donating to NYCC 🧡💙
A couple of details to keep in mind:
〰️ You can find your NYC local council person at council.nyc.gov/districts (I know, I know, links don’t work in the captions). Alternately, say you are from ANYWHERE else in the United States (as I’m sure most of you are- we won’t talk about New York again! I know it’s a big azz world), just type into your search engine “my [insert city or town] council member”, and info should readily pop up!
〰️ If you watch the episode today, you’ll know what I’m talking about here, but make sure to support Intro 1947 (the amendment to the dirty buildings bill)!
〰️ On Tuesday, September 22nd at 10am EST is the virtual rally for the pre-hearing of Intro 1947. Will leave the RSVP link in my bio till then.
Y’all are dope, so keep shining 🧚🏽♀️✨
