I gained an insight into both the world of kids books and her passion for nutrition and Indian cuisine when we were neighbours in Singapore. I took to many story-telling tactics to persuade my son to eat his veggies and drink his ginger-turmeric-honey tea…which seemed to work better than nagging! I spent a lot of time researching foods that would boost his immune system and developing recipes featuring those powerful ingredients. Getting kids to eat healthy and make better choices in the face of Halloween candy, Christmas cookies, fast food and countless birthday cupcakes is tough on kids! Hey even most grown-ups struggle! But finding the right balance is key…and building a deep love for nutrient dense foods or superfoods is going to reap us all rich rewards, for life! In my new book, I acknowledge that my kids aren’t going to pick chia pudding over regular pudding and so instead of focusing on trendy and hard to pronounce superfoods, I highlight kid-friendly, easy to find, affordable everyday superfoods like pomegranates and coconuts and oranges…foods that kids naturally love.
